South Asheville Cemetery
The South Asheville Cemetery, located on 20 Dalton St, Asheville, NC, behind St. John 'A' Baptist Church, has a rich history dating back to at least the 19th century. While the first burials in South Asheville Cemetery are unknown, it was first opened to the public in 1865. Over 2000 people, some of which were enslaved or formerly enslaved individuals, have been interned in this historic cemetery; however this database only documents those with recognizable gravestones and markers.
